And, sadly, it's hard to pay attention to 80 years later.

Completely disagree.

I knew Brett would have an educational rebuttal to that. :D

I know, and I was purposefully asking for it :D

I try to appreciate old classics for their historical value... like trying to imagine what it was like when Citizen Kane was filmed. Yeah it seems a little slow (to me at least today), but when my young nephews tell me the original Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda "suck" I kinda get what the film buffs are going through

All the more reason why I hate "Best of All Time" lists, as they try to remove things from their given context.

I finally saw Avatar and quite liked it. I thought the 3D element was really well used (creating depth as opposed to popping out at you) and the scenery was pretty damn breathtaking. If hope the guys doing the Myst movie are taking notes.

The one thing that bugged me was that for most of the movie, I had the oddest feeling of deja vu, like I had seen this story before. And not like Dances With Wolves where it has a similar themes, I mean like a major chunk of the plot and story. And it wasn't until the the scene where the home tree is destroyed that I figured it out. This is the exact conversation as we walked out of the theater.

Wife: Well, that was better than I thought I would be! What did you think?
Me (With odd expression on my face): Fern Gully.
Wife: What?
Me: I just watched a 3 hour life action Fern Gully.
Wife (contemplating this for a second, then gets same odd expression): Whoa.
Cryo's back! Minus one appendix.

Yeah, I walked in having heard that comparison. It's true.

Avatar wasn't going to win Best Picture, but I'm surprised that it didn't win more technical awards.

James got totally smacked down by his ex-wife. Sucks for him.
